They are excellent climbers and prefer to nest in attics, roofs, and upper floors. Their droppings, gnaw marks, and scratching noises in walls or ceilings are common signs of infestation. Black rats can carry diseases and contaminate food supplies.

Eastern Subterranean Termite: These termites are small, pale insects that live underground and feed on wood. In June, their colonies are highly active due to the warm, moist conditions. They can cause significant structural damage by eating wood from the inside out, often going unnoticed until the damage is severe. Mud tubes along foundations or damaged wood that sounds hollow are typical indicators. Deer Tick: Deer ticks are tiny, dark-colored ticks that are most active in grassy, wooded, or brushy areas during June. They are known for spreading Lyme disease and other illnesses. The warm, humid weather and increased outdoor activity by people and animals make encounters more likely. Ticks wait on tall grass or shrubs and latch onto passing hosts. Boxelder Bug: Boxelder bugs are black insects with red or orange markings, commonly found on boxelder, maple, and ash trees. In June, they emerge in large numbers to feed and reproduce. They are often seen on sunny sides of buildings or trees. While they do not cause significant damage, they can become a nuisance when they enter homes in search of warmth or shelter.
